01 / The right surface

Care for what is already there.

Iron Mate™ restores visual depth to a sound black finish. It is a careful cosmetic treatment, not paint, rust conversion, structural repair, or a substitute for refinishing a failed coating.

Use only on clean, dry, completely cool black-finished iron or steel. Exterior fireplace-door frames, black-finished screens, trim, hearth hardware, and decorative ironwork away from flame and high heat can be candidates. Test an inconspicuous area before treating a visible surface.

Do not use on hot or warm surfaces; lit fireplaces; flame-contact or firebox-interior areas; burners, pilots, valves, controls, electrical parts, vents, flues, chimneys, cookware, or food-contact surfaces. Avoid glass, masonry, wood, plastic, fabric, bare or actively rusting metal, and peeling, blistered, powdery, cracked, failing, or unknown coatings. Do not use on stainless steel, aluminum, copper, brass, chrome, nickel, galvanized, plated, or polished metal unless specifically validated.

02 / The method

Very light on. All excess off.

More product will not improve the result. A complete buff and full drying time matter.

Cool and unlit.Confirm that the fireplace and every part to be treated are completely cool.
Clean and dry.Prepare the surface and let it dry fully.
Shake thoroughly.Natural pigment settling can occur.
Test out of sight.Check color, sheen, adhesion, and wipe-off after the test dries.
Apply sparingly.Use a clean, lint-free cloth to spread a thin, even coat.
Buff completely.Use a second clean cloth until no wet or oily residue remains.
Ventilate and wait.Allow at least 24 hours to dry. Cool, humid conditions or excess application may take longer.
Inspect before relighting.The surface must be dry, no longer tacky, and free of product odor.

Safety / read before opening

Combustible drying oil. Used cloths can ignite.

Keep away from heat, sparks, and flame during application and curing. Oil-soaked cloths can spontaneously ignite. Immediately place used cloths and applicators in a water-filled metal container with a tight-fitting lid. Dispose of them according to local requirements. Never leave oily materials folded, piled, balled up, or loose in ordinary trash.

Avoid eye contact and prolonged skin contact. Do not swallow. Keep away from children and pets. For eyes, rinse with water for at least 15 minutes. For skin, wash thoroughly with soap and water. If swallowed, do not induce vomiting; call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 or a doctor.
