Made for metal worth keeping

Care before replacement.

Black-finished iron and steel can look dull, dry, faded, or tired long before the piece stops fitting or functioning. Iron Mate enriches the appearance of an existing sound finish and buffs to a clean, cared-for look when used sparingly.

Every can is made by My Fireplace Doors LLC in documented small batches. The product is intended for careful, controlled surface care on the right material, in the right condition, and only when completely cool.

Know what it is. Iron Mate is cosmetic surface care. It is not paint, a rust converter, a structural repair, or a substitute for preparation and refinishing when a coating has failed.

Compatibility comes first

Use it only where it belongs.

Begin with a sound, clean, dry, completely cool black-finished iron or steel surface. Always test a small hidden area before treating a visible surface.

Appropriate candidates

Sound black-finished iron or steel

Exterior faces of fireplace-door frames, black-finished metal screens, iron or steel trim, hearth hardware, and decorative black ironwork away from flame and high heat.

Do not use

Heat, flame, failed finishes, or other materials

Never use on hot, warm, lit, flame-contact, or firebox-interior surfaces; burners, pilots, valves, controls, electrical parts, vents, flues, chimneys, cookware, or food-contact surfaces. Do not use on glass, masonry, wood, plastic, fabric, bare or actively rusting metal, or peeling, blistered, powdery, cracked, failing, or unknown coatings. Avoid stainless steel, aluminum, copper, brass, chrome, nickel, galvanized, plated, or polished metal unless specifically validated.

A deliberate eight-step application

Light on. Excess off.

Turn it off.

Confirm the fireplace and every part you may treat are completely cool and unlit.

Clean and dry.

Clean the surface appropriately and allow it to dry completely before opening the can.

Shake thoroughly.

Shake until the product looks uniformly black. Natural pigment settling can occur.

Test out of sight.

Continue only if color, sheen, adhesion, and wipe-off remain acceptable after the test dries.

Apply very lightly.

Put a small amount on a clean, lint-free cloth and spread a thin, even coat.

Buff completely.

Work it into the sound finish, then use a separate clean cloth until no wet or oily residue remains.

Ventilate and wait.

Allow at least 24 hours to dry. Cool or humid conditions and heavy application can require longer.

Inspect before use.

Do not relight until the surface is dry, no longer tacky, and product odor has dissipated.

Read before opening

Warning: combustible drying oil.

Keep away from heat, sparks, and flame during application and curing. Oil-soaked cloths can spontaneously ignite. Immediately place used cloths and applicators in a water-filled metal container with a tight-fitting lid and dispose of them according to local requirements. Never leave oily materials folded, piled, balled up, or loose in ordinary trash.

Avoid eye contact and prolonged skin contact. Do not swallow. Keep out of reach of children and pets.

Straight answers

Before you begin.

Will Iron Mate repaint damaged metal?

No. It enriches an existing sound finish. It does not replace missing coating or proper refinishing.

Can I apply it while the fireplace is warm?

No. The fireplace and metal must remain completely cool and unlit throughout inspection, cleaning, application, buffing, and curing.

Will it darken the surface?

It is intended to renew depth in appropriate black-finished iron and steel. Materials, coatings, age, and condition vary, so always test a hidden area.

How much should I use?

A very light coat. Excess product can delay drying and does not improve the result.

How should I store it?

Keep the can tightly closed, upright, cool, dry, and away from sunlight, heat, sparks, flame, oxidizers, children, and pets.

What is the net quantity?
