Iron Mate is a finish restorer—not paint, a rust converter, or a structural repair. The best candidates still have a sound black coating that has lost visual depth.

The application
Use less than you think.
Turn the fireplace off. Let every surface cool fully. Remove dust, soot, grease, and moisture before testing.
Shake well. Apply to a hidden area first and allow the test to dry so you can evaluate the final appearance.
Use a clean, lint-free cloth. Work a thin, even coat into the finish. Heavy application slows drying.
Continue with a clean cloth until no wet or oily residue remains and the surface looks even.
Allow at least 24 hours to dry—longer if needed. Keep air moving through the room during drying.
Do not relight until the surface is fully dry with no tack and no oil odor remaining.
Important safety
Handle used cloths correctly.
Iron Mate is a combustible drying oil. Oil-soaked cloths can heat as they cure and may spontaneously ignite if piled, folded, or thrown away wet.
After use, place applicators and cloths in a water-filled metal container with a tight-fitting lid. Follow local requirements for disposal. Keep the product away from heat, sparks, flame, oxidizers, and children.
Read the full label before use. Use only with good ventilation and never on a hot or operating fireplace.

Is Iron Mate paint?
No. It is a finish-restoring oil for suitable, sound black-finished iron and steel. It does not hide texture or build a paint film.
How much should I apply?
A very light, even coat. Work it into the surface and buff away all excess. More product is not better.
When can I use the fireplace again?
Only after the treated exterior surface is fully dry, has no tack, and has no oil odor—at least 24 hours and longer when needed.
Will it repair rust or a failing finish?
No. Rust, bare metal, peeling coating, or structural damage needs appropriate preparation and refinishing before a cosmetic restorer is considered.
