Masonry fireplaces give you more freedom—but proportion and measurement still decide whether a door looks right.

A masonry fireplace is built into the home from brick, stone or block. Unlike many prefabricated fireplaces, it is not limited to a manufacturer-specific replacement door. That opens the choice of frame width, overlap, mounting style, finish, glass, hardware and overall visual weight.

Begin With the Opening and the Surround

Measure the opening width and height in more than one place. Also photograph the entire fireplace. Brick, stone, tile, mantel proportions and uneven surfaces can influence the best mounting method and the amount of frame the fireplace can carry.

Fitted or Fully Custom
